Paragon’s in-house counsel on demand model empowers you to work in a way that’s best for you. As a Paragon attorney, you can practice law in a meaningful way, with sophisticated clients, but with clear boundaries on your time commitment and expectations, so you can plan around your other priorities and interests. Some of our attorneys choose to work with Paragon because they’re caring for young children or elderly parents, others write books, make documentaries, or run nonprofits on the side, and others simply like experiencing a variety of industries and clients.

Paragon engagements typically last several months, and can range from 10-40 hours per week. We take a long term approach to our relationships with team members. We can provide engagements for one project or several, and support your team if you move back in house.

Our clients are located throughout the U.S. and range from startups to Fortune 500s. Our clients span a broad range of industries, including tech, financial services, consumer products, and healthcare. Many of our clients stay with us long-term, returning to us again and again to meet their talent needs.

We place attorneys, contract managers, and compliance and legal ops professionals, across a wide variety of practice areas including commercial and tech transactions, privacy, product counseling, employment, and corporate. We don’t place non-corporate attorneys, including criminal, family, appellate, or administrative law.

From a soft skills perspective, the qualities that make a successful placement are versatility, flexibility, and the ability to assess and adapt to a client’s preferences and risk profile. Our candidates choose Paragon for different reasons at different seasons of their careers. For some it is their primary source of employment. For others it supplements their solo practice or serves as a stepping stone for a career in transition. All candidates that choose Paragon seek to provide top of the line service to their client while growing professionally.

Our clients are located nationwide. 90% of engagements are remote. Some are hybrid, but very few are fully onsite at this time.

It depends! Every week, we get new projects which vary across practice areas, experience, and geography. How quickly we place you is dependent on the market as well as your preferences and how well your experience aligns with our open projects. It can be as little as two weeks, but may be longer. Once we vet you as a candidate, we’ll work hard to keep in touch and keep you in mind as new projects come in.

While on a project, you’re a W-2 employee of Paragon (not a 1099), and you are paid for every hour you work. Rates are project-specific and dependent on a variety of factors.

Paragon team members are provided with professional liability insurance that covers them for work they do for Paragon clients. Note that this insurance does not cover work you do with non-Paragon clients.

If you’re interested in continuing with Paragon, we will take a proactive approach to see if your current project will be extended, and/or we will submit you for other roles that look like a good fit. We will always do our best to redeploy you and find something in alignment with the market, our clients’ needs, and your interests and skills.

Our focus is making great matches, so if there is mutual interest in a transfer to permanent employment, we will help facilitate a smooth transition. Many of our clients are former Paragon candidates and vice versa.
