Paragon Legal’s Story

In 2006, after years practicing at a top San Francisco law firm and in-house at several technology companies, all while raising a young family, Paragon founder Mae O’Malley set out to practice law on her own terms. Paragon Legal was born from her desire to have greater flexibility while still doing meaningful and challenging work—a desire she knew countless other legal professionals shared. Under Mae’s leadership, Paragon’s reputation and client base grew steadily.

In 2017, Mae met Jessica Markowitz and Trista Engel, now Paragon President & COO and CEO, respectively. Jessica and Trista dedicated themselves to learning about the company and its values over the next 18 months, and began to crystallize a vision for its future. Mae was confident that Jessica and Trista were the right choice to steward her legacy and lead Paragon in its next phase of growth, and sold the company to them in 2018. Today, Paragon continues to build on the foundation Mae built and is known as a premier source for in-house counsel on demand.
