Who knew practicing privacy law could be so exciting? The explosion of new technologies in California has, subsequently, created an abundance of new legal privacy issues for companies and consumers alike. And that's precisely why Mariam moved to San Francisco two years ago, without knowing a single soul, fresh out of law school and determined to forge a legal career in the privacy hotbed of the country despite advice that this was an impossible feat for a new graduate. She found her first job as a Post Bar Clerk for the Office of the California Attorney General's Privacy Enforcement and Protection Unit, and then eagerly joined Paragon's privacy team at Autodesk after extensively integrating herself into the privacy law world during her first year as a professional. At Autodesk, Mariam works closely with the company's product teams and technical security experts to help ensure Autodesk successfully navigates the somewhat unchartered waters of privacy law.
Mariam earned her J.D. at Vanderbilt University Law School after graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in Philosophy and Psychology from University of Wisconsin-Milaukee. She began her legal career as an Intern at the American Bar Association Center for Human Rights, but was intrigued with the possibilities that privacy law presented after spending a summer as a Corporate Legal Intern for Qualcomm in San Diego. Born in Albany, NY, to Egyptian parents, Mariam had a nomadic childhood, attending high school in three different countries. This exposure to so many different people and cultures, coupled with her love of debating, led Mariam toward a life in the legal profession. Mariam loves San Francisco and its proximity to the beach and the mountains. In her free time you can find her attending concerts, camping, traveling the world (most recently a solo trip to Greece) or relaxing at yoga.
